Date Night / Day
Relax & unwind at the Amana Colonies
Date Night in the Amana Colonies will provide you with several options. Let’s start with a little wine sampling during the day. There are 4 wineries in the village of Amana so take a little time and sample several wines to find the one that fits your palette. Purchase a bottle for later. Then stop by the Chocolate Haus for a special treat. The selection is wonderful and the chocolates are hand dipped. Purchase one for each of you; you’ll want something before bedtime.
For dinner, a little pre-planning will help you set the mood. If you are looking for a more active atmosphere maybe with a German Beer Hall feel and some sports viewing the Millstream Brau Haus is your ticket. TVs are spread around the seating area and their own brewed beer flows as you root for your favorite team.
Looking for a little more intimate spot, either the Ox Yoke or The Ronneburg would be your best bet. Ask for a table in the corner and enjoy a great meal. If theater is in your plans for the evening, you’ll want to eat early. The Old Creamery Theatre’s performance begins at 7:30 pm and you should plan at least a 10-minute drive to the theater.
Here is an idea for something completely different, something you won’t do every day. Grab a wood-fired pizza from PHAT Daddy’s, and then take it to the Lily Lake. There’s a small pavilion there with picnic tables or maybe walk along the trail to one of the benches. It will be the two of you, the crickets, the stars, and some moonlight.
After the meal, take a stroll through town. The Colonies are very peaceful at night. The little street lamps will come on and the fireflies will flash as you walk along the street. You’ll quickly realize you’re not in the city any longer and life in the Colonies takes place at a little slower pace. End your walk at your hotel or B&B. Sit on the deck or patio, time to open that wine you purchased earlier in the day and how about those chocolates you selected. Count the stars and savor the wine and the quiet of a night in the Amana Colonies.
