It’s been a busy year and the holidays are just ahead, time to take a break and get away. We planned the first weekend in November as a perfect time for a Girls Getaway Weekend. Ladies, this is just for you; come to the Colonies and relax and rejuvenate. We have a variety of activities planned with you in mind.
Maybe a little shopping therapy is in order. Stroll the streets of the village at a leisurely pace and hit a few shops. Maybe find something for yourself or sample our award-winning wines. We have 4 wineries in a 4 block area in the village of Amana. Each gives samples so you’ll be able to find the perfect wine for you. Rather have beer? Our brewery, the oldest microbrewery in the state, also give samples and in their restaurant that evening there’s live music so you can wind down.
In the mood to sample some specialty foods? The food shops have samples available and you can literally eat your way across the village. Try a little cheese here and a little chocolate there.
The Amana Colonies have some of the best antique shops in the state of Iowa. There are 15 of them here and you’ll find old treasures and unique items from days gone by. A walk through these shops is sure to bring back memories of your childhood or your grandparents. There’s a special item with a great story around each corner.
At Fern Hill in South Amana, not only will you find antiques but much more. On the Saturday of Girls Getaway Weekend, they showcase new products and vendors that will make your home look beautiful. Talk to the designers and get some great tips.
Local Amana fiber artist display and sell their work at the Amana Arts Guild Fall Fiber Sale and Show that coincides with Girls Getaway Weekend. If your looking for that handmade unique item this is the place to go. You’ll meet the artist and see fantastic items all made from fibers. Check out the Amana Colonies knitted mittens. Everyone in Colonies grows up with these and they are super warm.
Grab your girlfriends and meet in the Amana Colonies for a fantastic Girl’s Getaway before the holiday rush. Oh, the guys are welcome too.
