Saturday, June 27th, 2020 & Saturday, July 25th, 2020 from 10am – 4pm
Several of our local gardeners open their yards to visitors who may stroll and see the fruits of their hard work! The Colonies are blessed to have so many talented gardeners that are dedicated to their hobby. Twice each growing season we select the best yards and gardens and these private individuals open them up for you to see.
This event is free and you will fill an entire day traveling through the Amana Colonies to the selected homes. Each one is different and unique. Some are tended by master gardeners and others by residents that just love their garden. You’ll see flowers and green plants along with vegetable gardens. Some rare plants, beautiful displays of color, and get tips on how these masters grow their favorites.
In 2020, we will be joined by naturalist Mary Bulger from Iowa County Conservation. She will be at the Homestead Communal Vegetable Garden & Monarch Pollinator discussing the monarch life cycle, general pollinators, and how to attract them to your garden!
There are two dates, one in June that features the early blooming flowers and one in July for the later varieties. If you are lucky enough to come for both you will see the change throughout the season. Maps of the homes/yards are available at the Amana Colonies Visitor Center so make sure to stop by for a map and directions.
Colonies in Bloom Garden Party
July 25th from 6pm – 9pm
Join us for the first annual Colonies in Bloom Garden Party! In partnership with the Amana Heritage Society, we would like to invite you for drinks, dinner, live music, and yard games at the Amana Heritage Museum.
From 6-9pm, jazz artists Blake Shaw and Dan Padley will be performing live. While you listen, enjoy traditional Amana Colonies foods made by the Amana Meat Shop, and grab a drink of local beer or wine. During the evening, you’ll find Kolonie Kubb Learn-n-Play set up and you’ll be able to explore the museums, and ask gardening questions about the yard.
Admission to this event is free!
We would like to thank our sponsor, the Bankhaus, for their support.
