Process of Wood and Linoleum Relief Printing

The course is designed to give students a basic overview of the relief printmaking process, as well as an
understanding of what a print is. Students will be exposed to the basic techniques and concepts of relief
printmaking, followed by in-depth, hands-on experience in the process. Both hand printing methods and
press printing will be demonstrated. The class will be making small editions of black and white prints
from linoleum and wood blocks; woodcut material, tools and color applications will also be
demonstrated and discussed. Both traditional and contemporary approaches will be looked at through
original examples. There will group and individual critiques spaced around work sessions. Whenever
