Put own your dancing shoes and head to the Amana Colonies RV Park for some good old fashion polka music. Always held the weekend after Memorial Day, Becksterfest features five great bands playing music throughout the weekend including a Polka Mass on Sunday morning. Named for Barefoot Becky and the Ivanhoe Dutchmen, a polka band that performs around the Midwest and quite frequently in the Amana Colonies, the festival includes other groups but Barefoot Becky (yes, she is really barefooted) is the host band.
The activities take place about 1 mile outside the village of Amana in the RV Park’s largest building. The facility is air conditioned and very comfortable and there is plenty of parking. The bands rotate throughout the event but it’s always a polka based musical set. For the serious dancers there is a wooden dance floor. If you get hungry you’ll be in for a treat as food is available from the Ronneburg Restaurant and features some German favorites along with American cuisine. All that dancing is sure to work up your thirst, not to worry you can grab a beer at the beverage wagon.
If you love polka music this is the place to be.
