Amana Trail

bike all five amana colonies

The Amana Trail is a 21-mile route connecting the villages of Amana, Middle Amana, South Amana, and Homestead via highways 220, 6, and 51. Enjoy a cold beverage at Millstream at the completion of your ride!

For a shorter, family-friendly route, bike or walk the Kolonieweg Trail around Lily Lake. The Kolonieweg is a 3.1-mile trail connecting the villages of Amana and Middle Amana. Most of the trail is paved, but a small portion is gravel. The trail offers scenic views of Lily Lake, the Millrace, pastures, farmland and the surrounding countryside. Lily Lake blooms from July to August with yellow lotus lily flowers. This trail offers the rider or walker great opportunities to spot a large and changing variety of birds and wildlife. Eagles are common in the spring as are pelicans. Canada geese and trumpeter swans are in the area year-round. The Amana Depot serves as the trailhead for the Kolonieweg, providing parking and seasonal restrooms.

Enjoy a more vigorous ride off road with our Amana Gravel Bike Route. The Amana Gravel Bike Route is a challenging ride that travels the back roads between Middle Amana, High Amana, and West Amana.

For walking only, enjoy our Amana Nature Trail, located just outside the Homestead village at the junction of Highways 6 and 151. It provides a winding walk through the Amana forest to a bluff overlooking the Iowa River.
