Village Voyage: Van Tour of the Amana Colonies

A three hour guided driving tour through the Amana Colonies showcasing historic attributes of the villages while also discussing how life is today. Tour stops include the Communal Kitchen Museum, the High Amana General Store, the Communal Church Museum, various businesses and attractions and travels throughout the seven villages.
The tour runs Monday– Saturday, leaving the Visitor\'s Center at 10 a.m. Seating is limited, please call (319) 622-7622 to reserve your seat. Cost: $18 for adults, $13 for children 10 and under.

Village Stroll: Walking Tour of the village of Amana

Handworks: Woodworking Tools and Traditions

Unplug from the world of machines, dust, and noise while enjoying the crisp, satisfying experience of the hand plane, hand saw and chisel. Experience how the the original Amana furniture makers worked in wood, and purchase tools from these modern moguls of hand tool manufacture.
Over two dozen manufacturers and artisans dedicated to resurrecting traditional woodworking tools and techniques will bring their products and expertise, along with workbenches for anyone to try out the tools and learn first-hand from these experts what the hand-tool Renaissance is all about. Learn to hand-cut dovetails that no machine could ever duplicate (it's easier than you think.) Or pass a razor-sharp smoothing plane over a piece of cherry and be dazzled at the gleaming, lustrous finish left in its wake. Not only will there be tools and toolmakers, but expert hand-tool furniture makers as well. Learn first-hand how hand tools make woodworking more precise, easier, more satisfying and meaningful. If you've never used precise, finely-made woodworking tools, Handworks is the place to do it.
Special Presentation and Lecture:
Join conservator and furniture expert Don Williams and hand tool expert and author Chris Schwarz for a behind-the-curtain look at the famous tool chest of Henry O. Studley. This chest was made famous during its time at the Smithsonian Institution, and now Williams and Schwarz have gained exclusive access to this elusive gem in the process of preparing for the upcoming Lost Art Press publication about the chest. The pair have cataloged every tool and construction detail of Studley's masterwork. Don't miss this rare chance to learn about the chest and its tools in greater detail from the two men closest to the chest.

IOWA RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL & Gathering o'Celts

The 22nd annual IOWA RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL & Gathering o'Celts will bring 200 costumed characters, 18 professional performing troupes, dozens of headliner stage shows on six stages of entertainment in a pastoral village that features three living-history re-enactment realms and a horseback jousting arena. The merchants bazaar will feature 60 artisans and crafters who come in from all over the U.S. There will also be a wide variety of hands-on activities for all ages and numerous displays/exhibits. Iowa State Cornhusking Competition

After a six-year hiatus, the Iowa State Cornhusking Competition will be held at the Amana Colonies RV Park & Event Center on October 12th, 2013. Iowa Corn Husking, Inc. invites contestant and spectators to enjoy a day of competitve corn husking, which will give competitors in men's, women's, and youth dvisions the chance to qualify for the National Cornhusking Competition held on Oct 20-21 in Central City, Nebraska. Join us for a glimpse into Iowa's rich agricultural heritage that still provides great fun and physical challenge. Christmas Haus Tour

Location: Amana Arts Guild

The Villages of Amana Christmas Haus Tour will be held on December 1 from 10am-4pm and December 2nd from 4pm-8pm. Visitors can welcome in the Holiday season by touring five homes throughout the historic villages. Visit with homeowners and get to know the Colonies in a whole new way. The Amana Arts Guild's "Weihnachtsmarkt" will offer unique handmade Colony art and crafts. Hot cider and cookies will be available. The cost of the tour is $10 and children under 12 are free. Tickets in advance can be purchased at the Amana Colonies Visitors Center or the day of the event at each home on the tour.
